Sometimes you want something so much and you think there is no other place or way you can have it. For instance, I always saw myself in New York for school or work or who knows what after college in LA. But now, for the first (real) time, I'm beginning to think that maybe New York isn't it. I don't know what is it anymore. I guess I was concentrating so hard on it that I failed to see all the other amazing places out there as well. Someone told me today that I am really single minded, and if I see one path, I will just continue on down that one road. I didn't think I was but maybe I am. I see a fork in the road now. It's just weird how a big dream can subject you to ignorance in some way.
Sometimes a dream will start to fade, only to open up onto a whole new, better dream. Just as one door closes, another one opens. Just as you loose something, you gain something at the same time. Just as you gain something, you loose something at the same time.
The loss of one's love and the aftermath of that. Colin Firth is amazing. Ah- mazing. The film center's around his character, George, who loses his love Jim. It shows his methods of coping and his struggle to go on living each day waking up to the realization of his loss.
Despite my preference of men, I still think a woman's body is much more elegant than that of a man. This was the first film that made me see elegance in the male body. Sure you see it in a male ballerina, but this was a different one. It wasn't a feminized masculinity. It wasn't a beefcake-esque masculinity either. It was just pure elegance. The body wasn't objectified in a manner that made it corny either, it was approached from an artistic aesthetic. Ford definitely made me see things in a different light. Love!
Even in the opening scene with the mirror you can tell that Professor Falconer has some very luxurious cologne bottles and the overall refined taste of Ford is evident. It doesn't scream out it's fashion ties but they're there if you know where to find them. The film touches on thoughts I'm sure the modern philosopher in all of us has pondered one time or another. Not to be a broken record but I just really enjoyed this film. The ending was exquisitely done as well. It was irony and something else. It really enforced, for me at least, the fact that everything will fall into place when the time is right.
And Julianne Moore... her portrayal of Charly was so very vulnerable and exposed. I appreciated her raw performance. And she was surprisingly humorous. I think whoever did the casting did a really good job with all of it. If those aren't reason enough, go to hear the soundtrack, see the wardrobes and the embodiment of Tom Ford in moving picture.
p.s. It makes Los Angeles seem like a more exciting place. And makes suburbia alluring. And landscape look erotic.
feast your eyes on Alber Elbaz's newest This shoe is the ideal manifestation of classic done up with a touch of subtle edge. I love when things are fresh but without being in-your-face trendy. I can see it being a season-less shoe, but still not your typical go-to shoe. And besides, who can say anything subpar of anything from the baby faced Elbaz. The rest of the shoes were beautiful but this one had that extra something special. All the embellishments were like bam bam bam. And I go especially gaga for anything sparkly, jewel encrusted or sequined. So it's no mystery the collection is full of show stoppers but to me, the shoes really make the clothes that much better. The perfect shoe makes for the perfect h-to-t look. I love seeing a designer not skimp and make heirloom worthy pieces in a recession. Fashion will always be a world of its own. I'll be dreaming of this shoe tonight. Thank You Alber.

Even though the majority of people I know don't go to church... the idea of "Sunday-best" is still referred to. I think it's an endearing tradition. Wouldn't it be great if everyone would oblige to this, even if Sunday is mostly reserved for recuperation. It seems I always love the looks Ali Michaels gets put in. Even in the 3.1 Phillip Lim S2010 show, her look was my favorite. Well it's Sunday today, and I am wearing a waffle fabric long sleeve and silk men's boxers. Definitely not my Sunday-best, next Sunday.
Hullo there. So I've pulled an all nighter writing my essay on the Science of Sexual Attraction for my psych and perception class and by practicing for my 20 minute presentation for my Fashion as Culture class. And here I am now.. watching episodes of Chanel's Paris-Shanghai ateliers. I wanted to share this one because it shows Karl drawing and the sound of his marker scratch scratch a latchin on the paper is so.. cute. Love him.
On another cute note... Jean Paul Gaultier wants to watch A Christmas Carol, "the one with Jim Carey," because "...it looks really funny and with a lot of ideas and quite like dreaming." You can read the full cuteness here- Now I'm just going to kill time until school starts at 10 am. ...Why is it that I never sleep before Mondays, the one day I have a 12 hour day. But I'm not sleepy anyways. I guess I'll watch more Chanel episodes and then shower and head off to school. Toodles!
i adore karl, kaiser karl! this show reminds me of the coco film they had on lifetime, because they focused on her life by the sea more than the recent coco before chanel film did. i feel like lifetime oddly enough gave a better account of her life. i wonder if the voice in the music is karl talking in the show? it sure sounds like him, i hope it is him. everything i love about parisian fashion, music and history. tres bien.
